Dr. Mohamed Alshmandi

Dr. Mohamed Alshmandi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician with over 15 years of specialist experience in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is dual specialist registered with the Irish Medical Council in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine.

After graduating from the University of Tripoli in 2004, Dr. Alshmandi completed specialist and subspecialty training in South Africa, earning the Fellowship of the College of Physicians of South Africa (FCP (SA)), a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine, and the Subspecialty Certificate in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He also holds the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH), awarded by the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians (UK) and the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Alshmandi has worked in leading academic and tertiary referral centres in South Africa and Ireland, including Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Academic Hospital, Tallaght University Hospital, Tipperary University Hospital, Limerick University Hospital, and Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic disorders and is highly skilled in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Alshmandi is actively involved in medical education, research and endoscopy quality improvement. He is an RCPI Basic Specialist Training (BST) Trainer and has supervised medical students and specialist trainees throughout his career. He has authored peer-reviewed publications, presented at international gastroenterology conferences, and actively contributes to the advancement of gastrointestinal services and endoscopy quality improvement.
