Professional Profile

Dr. Solomon Asgedom completed his post-graduate training in Ireland. He completed his Masters Degree in Cardiology at Trinity College Dublin and undertook his Diploma in Tropical Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI). Dr. Asgedom completed his higher-level training in General Internal Medicine and Cardiology, rotating in different hospitals and post-CSCST two year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Beaumont Hospital, Ireland. He is a fellow of Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and fellow of European Society of Cardiology.

Dr. Asgedom gained invaluable experience working as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in various hospitals in Ireland and the U.K. before commencing his full time permanent consultant post at University Hospital Waterford in 2016.

He has a keen interest in research and teaching both undergraduate and post-graduate trainees. He is a registered trainer with RCPI and his involvement is recognised as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at RCSI and UCC.

Clinical Special Interests:

  • General cardiology
  • Interventional cardiology, both acute coronary syndrome and elective cases
  • Complex coronary intervention with intracoronary imaging and calcium modification
  • Pacemaker, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and loop recorder implantation
  • Non-invasive cardiology including DC-cardioversion, trans-thoracic echocardiogram (TTE), and trans-esophageal echocardiogram (TOE)
