Professional ProfileMr. Mark Berney is an orthopaedic surgeon and specialist in hip and knee surgery. He is based in University Hospital Waterford and UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
Mr. Berney graduated with honours from University College Dublin in 2014. He completed his specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He was then appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Waterford.
Mr. Berney has completed a number of international fellowships to ensure he is able to provide the highest level of care to his patients. He undertook a fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, specialising in lower limb trauma and arthroplasty (hip and knee replacement surgery). He then travelled to Sydney for a fellowship in complex knee surgery, including total and partial knee replacements using robotic technology, ACL and knee ligament reconstruction, treatment of meniscal pathology, and osteotomies around the knee. Within Europe, he spent time in the Charite Hospital, Berlin, and the Endo-Klinik, Hamburg, two specialist centres for musculoskeletal infection.
