Professional ProfileMr. Oisín Breathnach is an orthopaedic surgeon based at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford and UPMC Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny.
Mr. Breathnach graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005. Following the completion of his surgical training he was awarded the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery) and was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and Kilcreene Regional Hospital, Kilkenny (KROH).
Mr. Breathnach completed fellowship training in Toronto, Canada. His fellowship encompassed clinical, surgical, and research modules in hospitals including Sunnybrook, St. Michaels and Toronto Western.
His current practice in UHW and KROH involves management of chronic degenerative upper limb conditions, complex upper limb trauma cases, and management of metastatic disease spread to the upper limb.
He was the clinical lead for the re-organisation of fracture clinic services/Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) in UHW and the South-East during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also engaged with General Practitioners (GPs) in the South-East to facilitate electronic correspondence from UHW to GPs in relation to outpatient clinics and inpatient admissions.
