Professional Profile

Dr. Owen Gallagher is a GP with a specialist interest in preventative medicine, health screening, and long-term health optimisation. With more than a decade of clinical experience managing both acute and chronic illness in primary care, he is committed to helping patients take a proactive, informed, and holistic approach to their health, with a strong focus on early detection, disease prevention, and lifelong wellbeing.

Originally from Donegal, Dr. Gallagher graduated in Medicine from the University of Galway before completing specialist training in General Practice. Alongside his GP training, he pursued additional qualifications in lifestyle medicine, dermatology, and completed a Master’s degree in Primary Care (Musculoskeletal Medicine & Orthopaedics). He is also a member of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine.

Dr. Gallagher’s approach to patient care is strongly influenced by his experience working as a team doctor with intercounty hurling and football teams. Through elite sport, he developed a deep appreciation for the value of personalised, performance-focused healthcare, an approach he now brings to everyday clinical practice. His aim is to support patients not only in treating illness, but in optimising health, resilience, recovery, and overall quality of life.

He has a particular interest in translating evidence-based strategies from sports and lifestyle medicine into practical, sustainable interventions for patients of all ages and backgrounds. His clinical philosophy centres on empowering individuals with a clearer understanding of their health and providing them with realistic, tailored plans to improve longevity, vitality, and long-term outcomes.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Gallagher has a strong personal interest in health, fitness, and performance. He regularly trains in CrossFit and competes in HYROX events, experiences that further reinforce his understanding of the important relationship between exercise, nutrition, recovery, and overall wellbeing.
