Professional Profile

Mr. McCullough obtained his medical degree from the RCSI in 1997. Following basic surgical training in Dublin he spent two years in dedicated research in the Academic Surgical Unit at St. Mary's Hospital London. He was subsequently awarded the MD for his thesis by the University of London. Following higher surgical training in the West Midlands, he completed a laparoscopic fellowship awarded by RCSEng in the Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

In 2012, Mr. McCullough was appointed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. Alongside a busy clinical practice, he was heavily engaged in clinical management. Amongst his many roles, he led the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety programme for the wider department and was appointed Lead Colorectal Surgeon in 2015.

Mr. McCullough returned to Waterford in 2019 following his appointment to University Hospital Waterford. He brings a wealth of clinical and managerial experience from his years in the NHS. More recently he has completed the training programme for independent practice in robotic surgery.
