Professional ProfileDr. O’Callaghan has lectured extensively in the field of cardiology throughout his career and has had numerous publications, predominantly in the field of emerging cardiovascular risk factors. After graduating from University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin, Dr. O’Callaghan completed specialist training in Cardiology in the Dublin Federated Teaching Hospitals and undertook a clinical research fellowship in the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at St. Barts Hospital, London and went on to run primary and secondary prevention clinics in the London Chest Hospital along with acute and general cardiac clinics at The Royal London Hospital and was lead clinician for echocardiography.
On his return to Ireland, he took up a consultant cardiologist post in University Hospital Waterford. He currently runs the Acute Medical Unit of UHW and has established his private practice at UPMC Whitfield Hospital.
