Mr. Patrick Carton

Mr. Pat Carton works in Full-Time Private Practice (FTPP) as an orthopaedic consultant and specialist hip surgeon, at UPMC Whitfield Hospital.

Mr. Carton is the Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine for UPMC in Ireland, overseeing clinical service development at UPMC Whitfield, UPMC Aut Even and UPMC Kildare hospitals, and at the UPMC Sports Medicine clinic, SETU Arena (formerly WIT Arena), Waterford.

Mr. Carton is an internationally renowned expert on minimally invasive hip surgery, using keyhole techniques to repair and preserve the hip joint. Most of his hip replacement practice involves younger, more active patients with osteoarthritis of their hip joints. He primarily uses uncemented components, with ceramic bearings, in this more active age group to optimise recovery and hip function.

He is an active faculty member of the International Hip Preservation Society (ISHA) and regularly presents and publishes his original research and outcomes from surgery, at international conferences and in high ranking, peer-reviewed medical journals, respectively.
