Professional ProfileMr. Hamid Mustafa has recently joined the UPMC Aut Even Hospital General Surgery team, bringing extensive expertise and a passion for patient care. He also serves as a Consultant General Surgeon at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, and as a visiting surgeon at Maroof International Hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan.
He is a distinguished fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the American College of Surgeons. Mr. Mustafa completed his European board qualifications in Colorectal Surgery in 2019, his FEBS (UEMS) in 2018, Intercollegiate FRCS Exam in General Surgery from JCIE in 2019, and FEBS (Coloproctology) in 2021. He is currently pursuing a research qualification (MCh) from University College Cork (UCC) and is actively involved in multiple research projects at Saint Luke's Kilkenny.
Mr. Mustafa began his medical career in Pakistan, completing his basic surgical training at the Federal Postgraduate Medical Institute (FPGMI) and Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore. He then moved to Ireland to further his training and career, starting at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, as a Senior House Officer in 2014 and progressing to a Registrar in General Surgery from 2015-2017. He advanced his career at Cork University Hospital (CUH) from 2017-2021, serving as a Senior Registrar in various surgical disciplines.
During his time at CUH, Mr. Mustafa conducted a randomized controlled trial on neck wound closure techniques and established several innovative services. He has a special interest in minimal access surgery and complex gallbladder surgeries, publishing and presenting his experiences at national and international surgical conferences.
Mr. Mustafa is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES), the British Hernia Society, and the Surgical Oncology Society of Pakistan (SOSPK). He is registered with both the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council in the UK, reflecting his commitment to high standards of medical practice.
Outside his clinical and research commitments, Mr. Mustafa advocates for surgical education and innovation, continually striving to enhance patient outcomes through cutting-edge techniques and evidence-based practices.
