UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic Completes Europe’s First Robotic Shoulder Procedure

Dublin, Ireland. 20 August 2026. UPMC is proud to share a significant innovation in orthopaedic care that took place in Santry recently: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic has completed Europe’s first Robotic Shoulder procedure.

Performed by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Ms Ruth Delaney, this landmark procedure marks the introduction of Mako SmartRobotics technology to shoulder replacement surgery in Europe.

The Mako Shoulder platform combines 3D pre-operative planning with robotic-assisted technology and real-time intraoperative guidance, supporting surgeons in delivering highly personalised and precise shoulder replacement procedures.
