UPMC Irish and Pittsburgh teams share sports medicine experiences
28 August 2019 — UPMC Whitfield Hospital consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Patrick Carton and Clinical Research Assistant, David Filan, visited Freddie Fu Sports Medicine Centre at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in UPMC’s hometown of Pittsburgh, US recently.
During the visit they met with a number of different specialists whose work focuses on advancements in the area of sports medicine, as well as touring the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, a comprehensive outpatient facility.
US-based researchers William Anderst PhD and Christine McDonough PhD provided the Irish team with an informative overview of the biodynamics lab, with a focus on measures of evaluating patient-reported and -derived outcomes.
Mr Carton delivered an informative presentation to faculty members including Dr Volker Musahl, Dr Dharmesh Vyas and Dr Craig Mauro in addition to orthopaedic Fellows within the orthopaedic sports medicine department.
