Expanded X-ray Services at UPMC Whitfield Hospital

12 May 2023 - The radiology department at UPMC Whitfield Hospital has recently opened two brand new Siemens Healthcare General X-ray rooms. This investment not only improves the quality of imaging, it also reduces the local average radiation dose administered to the patient.

As part of this improved service, the radiology department now has an orthopaedic suite installed on the X-ray equipment which allows the team to offer a new Whole Spine Imaging service. This is especially useful for the assessment of scoliosis. It also enables Full Leg Length imaging, which allows for assessment of leg length discrepancy.

UPMC Whitfield Hospital is part of the BEAM image transfer service that allows the transfer of images acquired to other BEAM sites across the country. Locally, this includes University Hospital Waterford (UHW), Wexford General Hospital, and St. Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, as well as many major hospitals in Dublin and Cork.

Throughout the department's renovation the team remained mindful to patient privacy and improvements have also been made to patient changing areas.
